Results of the West Point Bridge Design Contest


Final Round

The Final Round of the West Point Bridge Design Contest was conducted from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on April 28, 2011. During this two-hour period, the six finalist teams had just two hours to develop bridge designs for two different project scenarios.

Team Zombie Chickens, Charles and Sean from Cornwall, NY, came out on top and took home $10,000 scholarships in recognition of their achievement. The Bridge Bender, Geoffrey from Middletown, NJ, won a $5,000 scholarship as the second-place finisher. All six finalist teams received Dell notebook computers as well. The final standings are listed below. Congratulations to all six teams--the world's best virtual bridge builders!

Semi-Final Round

The Semi-Final Round of the West Point Bridge Design Contest was conducted from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on March 25, 2011. During this three-hour period, 41 semi-finalist teams received a new design project for the West Point Bridge Designer 2011, created designs, and submitted them to the contest website for judging. The semi-finalists competed at locations of their own choosing and were monitored by teachers and contest volunteers.

The official results of the Semifinal Round are listed below, and the #1 semi-final design is pictured at right. The top six semi-finalist teams were invited to compete in the Final Round. Congratulations, all!

Qualifying Round

The Qualifying Round of the West Point Bridge Design Contest ended at 1:00 pm EST on February 25, 2011. The teams that qualified for the Semi-Final Round are listed below. Congratulations to our semi-finalists!

The best design submitted during the Qualifying Round had a cost of $150,508.00. Well done, Brian and Tom--Team LHS Physics!

We will post a picture of the winning design here in a few weeks, after all local contests have been completed.
