Results of the 2003 Contest
Final Round  

The Final Round of the West Point Bridge Design Contest was conducted on May 23, 2003, at West Point, NY. With their parents, teachers, and an enthusiastic crowd of spectators (quietly) cheering them on, the six finalist teams received a new project for the West Point Bridge Designer 2003 and had two hours to develop their designs.

Skatebro'z from Sandy Hook, CT, finished first. Each member of the team won a $15,000 scholarship.

R2-D2 from Friendswood, TX, finished second, earning a $5,000 scholarship for each team member.

All twelve finalists received Dell notebook computers, in recognition of their successful completion of the Final Round.
The Competition
The Final Round was conducted at Herbert Hall, West Point, on May 23, 2003.

Fourth Place: Compression=Bad, Landstown High School, Virginia Beach, VA. Fifth Place: The Maelstrom, L.V. Berkner High School, Richardson, TX. Sixth Place: The Orcs, Sequim High School, Sequim, WA.

Semi-Final Round  

The Semifinal Round of the West Point Bridge Design Contest was conducted from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 26, 2003. During this three-hour period, 84 semi-finalist teams received a new design project for the West Point Bridge Designer 2003, created designs, and submitted them to the contest website for judging. Ultimately 1334 designs were submitted. The semi-finalists competed at locations of their own choosing and were monitored by teachers and contest volunteers.

The results of the Semifinal Round are listed below. The top six teams were invited to compete in the Final Round.

Qualifying Round  

The Qualifying Round of the West Point Bridge Design Contest was conducted from January 11, 2003 to April 10, 2003. During this period, 18,751 teams registered for the contest and used the West Point Bridge Designer 2003 to design bridges. 13,477 of these teams submitted 77,653 designs to the contest website for judging.

The teams listed below finished at the top of their respective zones and were invited to compete in the Semi-Final Round of the contest. The number of teams per zone was based on our decision to have ten different schools represented in each zone.
