Contest Stats

The West Point Bicentennial Engineering Design Contest was conducted from November 11, 2001 to April 27, 2002.

How did we do? Judge for yourself:

	During the Qualifying Round, 19,247 teams registered for the contest.
	These teams submitted 54,079 unique bridge designs to the contest website for judging.
	The website received over 250,000 unique hits.
	45,635 copies of the West Point Bridge Designer 2002 were downloaded.
	The top bridge designs were of extraordinary quality. In many cases, these designs were the product of thousands of design iterations!
	The contest received much favorable media coverage, including articles in USA Today, Parade, Boy's Life, American Teacher, TIES, Comstock's Business, Stars and Stripes, and The Chicago Tribune.
	The contest received much positive feedback from teachers, students, parents, and engineering practitioners.


The Winners

The Final Round of the West Point Bicentennial Engineering Design Contest was conducted at West Point on April 27, 2002. The seven finalist teams received a new design project for the West Point Bridge Designer and had just two hours to compete their designs. The final standings are shown below. The top three finishers won $15,000, $10,000, and $5,000 scholarships; and all finalists received laptop computers.

Qualifying Round

The Qualifying Round of the West Point Bicentennial Engineering Design Contest was conducted from November 11, 2001 to February 28, 2002. During this period, over 19,000 teams registered for the contest, used the West Point Bridge Designer 2002 to design bridges, and submitted their designs to the contest website for judging.

The teams listed below finished at the top of their respective zones and were invited to compete in the Semi-Final Round of the contest. The number of teams per zone was based on our decision to have ten different schools represented in each zone.
